YOUR PLAN OR GODS PLAN?

YOUR DAILY MOMENT; Inspirational thoughts to begin your day
July 15, 2017

Joseph Campbell was an American writer, lecturer, and mythologist.  In the late 1980’s he and Bill Moyers hosted “The Power of the Myth”, one of the most popular television series in the history of public broadcasting. In the first episode of the show, Campbell encourages the audience to discover what excites them, and make that the basis for their personal journeys.

I remember as a teenager all I wanted to be was a singer; a female rock star.  I enjoyed performing and that was my plan and that was what excited me.  That was the basis for my journey. No matter how much I wanted that dream to materialize, it was not to be. Have you ever noticed how life seems to get in the way of your plans? I did some traveling with a singing group in college, but we never went very far. Could it be that my plans were not God’s plans? Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

As I said, life got in the way of my plans.  After college, I had to get a real job and make a living. However, God used my love of music and my passion for performing to take me into areas of service for Him.  For the past forty years, I have enjoyed directing Christian choirs, being a worship leader and soloist. I even did some recording. Though I never achieved stardom, I pray that God used me in much bigger ways to advance His Kingdom. Had I been a rock star I would have only advanced my interests.

This brings me back to Joseph Campbell who also said, “We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.”  Only God knew what He had waiting for me. That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.  I Corinthians 2:9.

If life has gotten in the way of your plans, accept that God has a better plan. Then blossom where you are planted.

  1. You have many God given talents, author, singer, director for 40 years, and many more. Not counting a game you love to play. God had better plans for you than a rock star. 🙂

    1. YOU ARE SO KIND! Sometimes it is better to be a little fish in a little pond if you are plugging along trying to do God’s will, than being a big fish in a little pond only do things for your own glory.
      Be blessed.
