WINNING DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN FINISHING FIRST

YOUR DAILY MOMENT: Inspirational thoughts to begin your day
December 4, 2017

My husband, Joe, ran the Christmas Classic yesterday.  It is an annual 5k run which is followed by our town’s annual Christmas parade.  He usually comes home with a medal.  Today he wasn’t sure because he left before the awards ceremony.  He did find out later that he won first place!!  He is used to winning first place because most of the time he is the only one competing in his age bracket!!  That said, still, what he did was an accomplishment.  He trained, worked hard, (even with a bad knee) and did his best.

Often we talk about Paul running to win the prize.  That, however, is not what the scripture says.  “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” 1 Corinthians 9:24.  When we run in such a way as to get the  prize, it suggests we know we may not win but we are still giving it our best.  We are running as we would if we thought we would be the winner. I believe that is what God expects from each of us; our best. We tell our children, “don’t worry if you don’t win if you have done your best.” Paraphrased this verse says, “If you have done your best, you are the winner.”  That is what God is saying to His children.; just do your best in serving Me and you will win the treasure I have stored up for you in heaven.

P.S  I don’t believe everyone should get a trophy just for participating.  Only those who have done their best should be rewarded.
