DOES YOUR SPIRITUAL HOUSE PASS THE WHITE GLOVE TEST?

YOUR DAILY MOMENT: Inspirational thoughts to begin your day
January 3, 2017

For several months, my husband and I listed our home for sale with a realty company.  We did not sell the home but it was an impetus for us to keep the house clean should someone want to see the home on short notice.  Once the listing ended, I became lax in my housekeeping.

A couple of months later, our former realtor called to say a colleague of hers wanted to show our home. Even though it was not listed, we knew we could arrange a special contract. I was in a panic. My house was not ready to show to strangers.  It was in late December and after almost two weeks of holiday guests and entertaining, much was out of order, and nothing could pass the white glove test. While I did not sweep dirt under the rug, I am glad the prospective buyers did not look closely behind cabinet doors, closets and under the beds.  I am not above gathering clutter and tossing it into the trunk of a car.  In the end, the house looked great, but closer examination would have revealed a house not well kept.

I  pulled it off.  No one saw the things I did not want them to see. As I thought about this house that looked clean on the outside,  I thought how God knows what my physical house and my spiritual house are like on the outside and the inside.  He knows my thoughts and motives. He knows if they are pure or impure.  I cannot sweep anything under the proverbial rug. Nothing that I do, say or think escapes His white glove test.

I may never be a good housekeeper, and I doubt that God cares much about that, but he does care about the temple of the Holy Spirit, which is my body. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.” (1 Corinthians 6:19).

I belong to God.  He will not allow me to get away with anything that is contrary to His standard. I do not know His standard for my housekeeping, but I do know what His standard is for my life.
